US Tariffs: $80-$200 Surcharge On All Packages Regardless of Price

So, is the fixed cost per package rather than % tariffs still/actually happening?

I read in the Seattle Times this morning that an American living in Thailand can’t send mail to the US because the Thai post office refuses to do it due to the tariff complexity - apparently happening in other countries too.
It’s been pretty major news for the last week (and discussed in this thread). Yes, many countries’ postal services have stopped sending packages to the US.

Looks like I'll be going PDF-only soon.

We all know that if a book in Japan costs $88 to print and ship to the USA, very soon it will cost $87.99 to be printed in the USA.
We also know once that new price is established, it isn’t going back down once he tariff causing the increase is eventually gone.

Winnipeg winters aren’t sounding so bad these days.

We are pretty well past that point here, my friend.

Revocation of the de minimis exemption shifts it to "it depends" because what is being shipped can matter as much as where it is from and where it's being shipped from. They may not be reporting it but all of those national postal services refusing to ship are almost certainly doing things like working with us customs and potentially USPS to iron out the answers so they know what to charge shippers and have the required paperwork filled out by the sender prior to agreeing to ship a package to the US.

It started yesterday (Fri Aug 29th) here in Canada. So at least in the Great White North it's happening.

So...if you want this beautiful mirror ball made in a non-USMCA garage in Toronta...

...ya gotta pay 35% more plus $80 shipping.
