We have a house rule to make the APPRAISE skill more useful. Sale costs are 50% +/- market modifiers and plus % points of a roll over 10 (or 20 with bluff). So a basic sale cost could be: 62%, 50%+12% (roll of 22 on Appraise).

EDIT: and yes, you can buy used items for lower cost too. Scratch and dent sale baby!

For me it varies by game. The FTF is 50% or 75 % depending on appraise.

In one of my PBEMs I have instituted a 100% rule as the in-character fights over treasure wer threatening to destroy the game. And I kid not a bit.

I'm in the process of teaching a group of newbies and one of the things I wanted them to learn is to not take everything and try to sell it. So, they still search for magic items and other goodies, but I let them know when some piece of mundane equipment looks especially valuable. Then, they take that and I allow them to sell it for about 75% or so. If I do it correctly, it should even out to about the same and less accounting for all concerned.

Straight up exactly 50% makes things move quick. It's not the most realistic system (they never can get 51% no matter who is selling, cha doesn't matter, etc.) but speed is important.

Most of the time it is 50%. This may go up or down, depending on the person or party's reputation and/or their relationship and previous transactions (if any) will the buyer. For example, after my party played through the Freeport trilogy, the were considered heroes in Freeport and got large benefits when buying or selling items.
