User settings question

I'm looking at the settings about allowing email and they seem oddly worded.

The first one says:
"If you do not want to receive these notices, disable this option."

The second one says:
"You can allow other members to send you email messages."

So if there's a slash on the box it's on "email allowed", right? Or the other way around? Because I want both to be allowed.

It appears that you need to check them both to allow emails from both the Admins and other users (see attached image) -
