Using Carrion Crown within my Campaign?

plancktum

First Post
Hi,

My Group just achieved level 2 and I was thinking about running a campaign in a campaign ;)
i.e. I wanted to use for example carrion crown and place it in the dragon empire.
If I understand it correctly Carrion Crown is quite local? I mean it plays the most time in a very confined area?

Another idea was to use Serpent's Skull as another Island on which my players are stranded. But this sounds like it's
a) too much sandboxing and
b) too far away from the dragon empire.

So I Thought Carrion Crown could be perfect to fit into my campaign. I let them start at level 2 and end everything at level 10.

Do you think this could work? So in one sentence: Can I use the Carrion Crown AP within the Dragon Empire?

best regards

You could, but I'm not sure its a good fit. The setting of Carrion Crown is very gothic, and the adventures are best suited to a transylvania sort of flavor.

Council of Thieves might be easier to reskin.

I'm not completely familiar with the Dragon Empire, but I think you should be able to make it fit.

Fair warning to other readers, there may be some light Carrion Crown spoilers in this post.

Setting:
Carrion Crown depends on having a sort of horror-haunted backwater with some gothic overtones (in the Dracula sense of gothic, not the Cure sense of gothic). Even if the Dragon Empire doesn't include one by default, adding an area like that shouldn't really upset the balance of power.

Most Pathfinder Adventure Paths stay to relatively confined areas, the only exceptions that spring to mind being Jade Regent and Reign of Winter. So if you're specifically worried about it not becoming globetrotting, you have a lot of options.

Haunts:
There are a stretches Carrion Crown with a lot of haunts. If you haven't already figured out how you want to deal with them running Rise of the Runelords, it's worth some thought.

The Whispering Tyrant:
The arcing plot of Carrion Crown involves an organization trying to bring back the Whispering Tyrant, an ancient lich of legendary power.

Now, the Dragon Empire has a Lich King running around, so you'll probably want to consider how those two are connected. I'd be inclined to say that the Whispering Tyrant was an Icon in a previous age and the modern Lich King is, if anything, the most excited to keep him in the ground.

Cheers!

Nice! That Fits my actual campaign ideas very well. So I will take a look at the AP in the next days :)
