D&D 5E Using magic armor to attack

Pickaxe

Explorer
Our party has a battle rager barbarian with +1 spiked armor, and her go-to move is grappling and doing automatic damage from the spikes on the armor. The question has come up as to how this affects creatures that have resistance or immunity to piercing from non-magic weapons. Does the armor count as a magic weapon, since it is magical?

My guess is no, but I don’t no where this is spelled out, nor what options a battle rager might have. Armor is enchanted twice, once as armor and once as a weapon?

Thanks!

I am not sure but IIRC spike armor is not a standard equipment in the PHB, is there any example of a magic one in DMG? If not, it is up to your DM to decide. I would rule it counts as magical.

Edit: googled and found it's from SCAG so I can't check the details

I'd rule that it functions like a magic weapon. I don't know if that's RAW, but it doesn't seem to break the game and would increase that player's sense of fun. The spikes only deal a d4 anyways.
