Using things from X game for Y game.

Or, more specifically, using components of one game for another - does anybody else here do it? For example, I've gotten some excellent mileage out of these Starship Troopers Floorplans in my my old D&D campaign (they're big-ass, double-sided, terrain posters with a grid overlay). Likewise, I've used several old wargame maps to represent battlefields in The Fantasy Trip (it assumes hex-based combat). So, what components of one game have you used to enrich other games that they weren't specifically designed for?

I like to combine boardgames and RPGs. Like Star Wars (West End) and Star Warriors - which were built to mesh. Or the Feng Shui RPG and the Crimson Skies boardgame, which were not and required pretty clumsy conversions.

Things like floor plans I basically consider systemless. I did not think twice about using Space Crusade maps for a D&D game.

In terms of crunch and fluff, I've stolen from Gamma World and Boot Hill in the past, and to Boot Hill from AD&D. It can get a little silly if you go it too much.

D20 Stargate to 3e D&D I've also done. Haven't tried d20 Cthulu to 3e D&D, but it would likely be goodness!

Absolutely!
As a teenager, I merged the boardgame Dungeon with Basic D&D, and eventually used the cards from that boardgame with a hand-made random dungeon deck (inspired by the cardgame "waterworks" and dominoes) plus Basic, and mushed the whole thing into an unholy but (at the time) entertaining mess.

Often used random items from boardgames as minis, treasure counters, or the like. Also have yoinked monster/power ideas from M:TG (like most everyone else, I imagine!). Several board games (especially bookcase games) with tac maps of various sorts have served as either outdoor locales for rpgs, or domain maps for a campaign, depending upon scale.

I've also used the 3e grappling rules in Twister, to good effect.

I'll often steal ideas and concepts from one game and put them into another. I stole the player's turn/GM's turn from Mouseguard and put it into my Buffy game. During the day at high school it was the players' turn. They all introduces scenes, developed stuff with NPCs, or went fishing for Drama Points. At night, its my turn, and they have to deal with the monsterous threats in town.

I've been tempted to combine board games with RPGs. I think using the map tiles from Zombies!!! as a random map creator for AFMBE or Shotgun Diaries would be great. Even better for Shotgun Diaries I think, as that has rules for creating a safe house in a building. I'm also tempted to use the board from Arkham Horror for Call of Cthulhu, to represent the PCs exploring different parts of Arkham.
