[V:TM] Umbrachia; New Discipline

Umbrachia

Shadows are in every creature, even in the sea you cannot escape their grasp, most things are chained to their shadow, Wraith chain the shadows to themselves

Wraith uses this discipline, and it is rare you will see another clan member use it, and it is even rarer to see then use it again. The ability bears resemblance to obtenebration, as it was derived from that.

@ Shading (shadow play)

Acts as the power shadow play

@@Guard of night

Those who use this power can absorb small amounts of damage from sunlight and fire, the shadow instantly departs, however this is not from want to leave but the Wraith allows it, as they do not wish to anger them. It is bad manners to keep a shadow waiting.

System: A blood point is spent, and the shadows engulf the Wraith, allowing the Wraith to soak Aggravated damage (with one dice) from fire and sunlight.

@@@ Arms of the shadow

Acts as the power Arms of the abyss, apart from they are not from the abyss they are from the surrounding shadow.

@@@@ Spectres nest

Shadows are the life-stuff of the wraith, not only do they live in it and feed on it, they can make it. As a lot of people say it’s not the dark they are afraid of, it’s what’s in it but what is in the shadow is it. A wraith must sleep some where and they haven’t many places to do that, even if they have an abode they are potentially on the run.

System: Forming a nest requires a blood point for every 5 by 5 area up to 25 by 25 in this area whilst the kindred sleeps there they are unharmable by sunlight and fire, this is because they area is immersed in deep shadows; this only works when the nester sleeps in there, and for that day (the duration) Kine ignore the area, Canites don’t, but must make an occult + perception check against the nesters occult + manipulation to test how well “The rat made his nest”

@@@@@ Demishade

One of the many reasons Wraiths make good spies and skirmishers is that they can become darkness, shifting his/her form to become as wispy and inconspicuous as the breeze.

System: Dexterity + occult is rolled against 7, and a blood point is spent. A failed check inflicts two unsoakable health levels of lethal damage on the vampire, as the body is thinned out. No roll is required, although a blood point must be spent. The transformation takes three turns to complete,
although the character may reduce this time by one turn for each additional blood point spent (to a minimum of one turn). On a success you become incorporeal for a number of turns equal to the highest roll take 7 (if it is 0 then the ability lasts a turn). In this time the wraith makes all stealth rolls at four less a difficulty, can pass through thin walls, brick but no breeze blocks. Yet they are unable to attack, eye contact is still able to happen, but the wraith is seen as hiding for the duration.

I hope this ok :)

Okay...

Some of the text is very hard to understand, but I think I muddled through it.

Shading -- No big deal here; Shadow Play is a nice, yet really non-abusive first power for Obtenebration. The most you can really do with it is annoy Cainites or freak out the Kine.

Guard of Night -- One die of aggravated soak... I suppose this is okay, but I'm not sure if it fits well with the other powers in the Discipline. I could argue it's overpowered, but it's not -- 2 Dots of Fortitude would be better spent if you were looking for Aggravated Soak. I think it just feels... out of place in this Discipline.

Arms of Shadow -- Arms of the Abyss is a really effective power, especially in the hands of a competent Lasombra. As a derivative of Obtenebration, and since it uses a different "source," I would say this should be somehow weaker or limited to a maximum that is a lower than Obtenebration's Arms of the Abyss.

Spectre's Nest -- This is part Obfuscate, part Vicissitude (the Cocoon power). This is probably too powerful, as Vicissitude doesn't grant this ability as an option until the 6th level of the Discipline. This is basically Obfuscate 2, Vicissitude or Obtenebration 6 -- a multi-discipline power.

Demi-Shade -- This one has the worst textual problems, but if I understand it, this power is actually a little weak. The duration on it is a max of three rounds, you get the pass-wall effect of Metamorphosis, but you don't get the added attack benefits. I don't know if the reduction in difficulties is good enough to balance against Metamorphosis. I would probably increase the duration to make this power effective, and allow the Cainite to spend blood points to "upkeep" this power, then it would be pretty much on par with other fifth level Discipline powers.

The last two are a rewrtite of the last parts of the protean discipline, the second one was meant too be developed to add the clan because of the weakness, and orriginally the arms thing would scout, but t was a bit indescisive in the power part. If I can find the old post on sanguius I'll try to work out what they used to be...

Ferret - your writing is so undetailed, it's very hard to comprehend.

A suggestion - if you're proposing rules, they should be detailed out (cross-references to other Discipline powers, if you're using them as a comparison, for example).

Mordane76 seems to have a very good handle on the V:tM rules - I's listen to his advice completely if you're trying to make a new Bloodline and Discipline.
