VA, Manassas & vicinity: D&D 1E - One-shot Dungeon Crawls!

Hammerforge

Explorer
Play Location/Method: Manassas, VA or vicinity / Face to face

Game/System: D&D first edition, possibly Rules Cyclopedia

Player or GM? I'll DM but would like to switch off with someone else so as to get a chance to play at times.

Time/Frequency: 1-2 times a month, Fri. evenings and/or Saturdays.

Genre: Traditional Fantasy

Current needs: Looking to find players to start a group.

Here's the deal:

My vision is to form a consistent group of mature players who would like to gather for some simple, rules-lite, old-style D&D on an ongoing basis. The games will not necessarily involve long campaigns with complex story arcs & intense roleplaying. Instead, they will more likely involve quick character generation on the spot (easy to do with 1E) followed by dungeon delving using an adventure module (Tomb of Horrors?...heh-heh). The idea is to have some good old-style adventuring, not being picky about rules and complex story and character development. This is not to say that character development is out of the question; it's just not a requirement.

Would love to, but alas my Fridays and Saturdays are taken. Only real time I would have is 6:00pm to 10:00pm Sundays. As I am in Leesburg a good in-between place would be the Game Palor in Chentilly. I would be willing to DM and play.

Glad to hear that you'd be willing to DM, but Sundays are out for me. Guess we'll have to play this by ear.

Are you still looking for people. Just moved to the DC area and am looking to get back into gaming. haven't played 1E in a very long time, but would be interested in giving it a shot.

I kind of gave up on trying to get this started since everyone seems mostly interested in v. 3.5 only. But that doesn't mean I gave up completely. if we could get a group together to meet on mutually agreeable days and times, I'd still be interested in this. One other person has shown serious interest over on the Wizards.com forums. The thread is at http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=364569. You might want to jump in over there.

I'd be interested, but truth be told I'm still very new to this whole gaming thing. But I'm sure I could pick up the rules fairly quickly. Let me know.

There have been some recent developments regarding this first ed. D&D group I'm trying to get started:

I've found a DM who wants to run a 2nd ed. game set in Forgotten Realms using the "Night Below" adventure. There are already two players, myself and one other guy. We would like to find 2 more. We are planning to meet this Saturday, Feb. 19, around noon at the Game Parlor in Chantilly to get started (roll up characters, etc.). If you are not familiar with 2nd ed., don't worry -- the DM has no problem with that. It would be a good idea, though, to get hold of a copy of the 2nd ed. Players Handbook on Ebay. You can usually get one pretty cheap there.

If you're interested, please reply to this post or email me: burtsweep AT highstream DOT net. Thanks.
