Vallejo Paints- Good Deal?

I've been considering getting into painting miniatures, and just happened to stumble across what seems to be a decent deal at FRP Games. They're selling a "suitcase" of 72 bottles of paint for $149.99; the link is below. Is this a decent deal, or do folks think I'm better off buying paints individually?

Probably not too bad, but you can also do it cheeper by mixing your own. However, I never liked that method, and found it was much easier to have several colors readily available.

I'd try a few painting demos first to make sure you're going to be using them and not simply do a few and let the paints go bad.

I got this... there are two different cases. One is Game Color, the other is Model Color. I got Game Color. You really want to get the right one for the models you want to create. I can't recall which is which, but one has more flats...

I really like the paints, the case is nice too, but I'm not a big fan of the foam that the paints sit in. They can fall out if the case is turned on its side.

A plus for the paints is the dropper style. You can recreate paint mixes by just mixing the proper # of drops. These almost nearly come out to be the same color, over and over again. You can mix them slightly, and if you are good, you can get a marbled effect in the color when it goes onto primed surfaces.

You do get a good variety of paints, and they tend to go a long way. One problem with the paints is that they dry fast once out of the bottle. A little water will loosen them up, and it doesn't become too big of an issue if you put the drops in something small and deep. You don't want to drop on a card and then pull from there, the paint spreads too easily and dries really quickly. A few drops in a small depression work best. That also makes them easy to mix.

I reccomend the kit, but only if you paint a LOT!

I would go with the Game Color deal instead - same thing just a different formulation. They start thinner and are a little easier to work with - either way you cannot go wrong - Vallejo makes great paint!

$149 is a great deal. The Game Color is probably what you want, not the Model Color. Most everyone I know that uses Vallejo for mini's uses the Game Color.

17ml per bottle is nice too, compared to the 12ml in each of the Games Workshop/Old Reaper bottles. Also, you use closer to what you need with the "eye-dropper" pouring with less drying out too.

I thin Game Color paints with at least 1/2 water or thinner before applying.
