Value of a Half Nymph?

greycastle

First Post
I was wondering what people who've read the latest (or 2nd last) issue of Dragon think of the new templates or half races (such as half orge, half miniator).

What i was partially wondering was are they all races? or templates? And in the case of templates are the level adjustments fair? If the Half Nymph is a race, i look at +2 dex, +2 int, +2 wis, +4 cha, lowlight vision, fey bloodline, and the ability to use awesome beauty to shake an opponent (if anyone can give exact details of the ability, i would apprieciate it), a +2 level adjustment can seem a bit steep for simple stat increases.

And on behalf of a player, what classes are best suited for a half nymph (whether it be race or template)?. Despite certain logic, he doesn't want to play a sorceror or bard, and is thinking of playing a paladin/cleric/fist of raziel. Opinons?

Thanks ahead for answers.

Clearly it would depend on whether it was the top half or the bottom half, and whether you preferred the T or the A in T&A.

Oh no, Hong made perfectly good sense...

though that makes me wonder if that means that I'm as sick and twisted as he is...

ANYWHO...

From what I saw, I was under the impression that the races were in fact races in the Dragon article (mind you, I only looked at it for like 5 minutes). Though I do remember seeing template half-races somewhere... huh.. wonder if that was it.

And I'd go for Paladin if I were he... though I almost almost choose the more fightery of the classes, when given a choice.

Well, that race/template/whatever is perfectly molded for an awesome sorcerer or bard, but you already said no....

A wizard would like the Int bonus, clerics and paladins like the Wis and Cha, but the Dex bonus doesn't mean as much to people who are probably going to end up in heavy armor. Rogues can benefit from the Dex, Int (skill points!) and Cha bonuses.

I'd say rogue. That +4 cha is hard to beat with all those Cha-based skills. The Int gives an extra skill point per level, and every rogue wants a high Dex.

Templates, all of them inherited.

Personally, I think the half-nymph is a weak +2, but they'd have too much "Oomf" for a +1.

A half-nymph Paladin has a certain Galahad-esque charm to it, besides having the stat bonuses all in the right places (if you know what I mean, and I think you do). It's a tough call between a shining white horse or some interesting variant mount.

Yeah, but it's tough to be a paragon of good and virtue when every schmuck on the street is hitting on you... ;)

Especially if you have a Vow of Chastity.

Gods, that's a cool character concept. A half-nymph with a vow of chastity. Must...write up...character.

Before I got that Dragon issue, I wrote up a half-dryad template for my campaign that looked just like the half-nymph except it had charm person 1/day as her spell-like ability and a +4 to Dex instead of +2. I think that is much more deserving of a +2 LA than the half-nymph. So, my suggestion would be to bump up Dex, Int or Wis to +4.
