should i fold that into camouflage, you think?

Yeah, probably the easiest solution.

we can do that, then. i was wondering, doesn't it say somewhere that too many temporary hp can kill you? if so, we should state that life drain will not kill a moss.

I believe that is only as a feature of the Positive Energy Plane.

don't know, though that could be pretty bad for any characters left near a live vampire moss. if its temporary hp go away after an hour, and a victim is out for 3 hours... well, survivability is not likely. ;)

Yeah, that is pretty rough. Drow sleep poison deals 1 minute of unconsciousness on the primary damage. How about 1 minute?

we can do 1 minute, sure.

do you want to add this line: For every round the link remains after that, the victim must succeed on another Fortitude save with a cumulative +2 on the DC per round after the first, or fall unconscious?

how about:
Camouflage (Ex): Since a vampire moss looks like a normal plant when at rest, it takes a DC 20 Spot or Survival check to notice it before it attacks. Vampire moss turns from its normal pale green color to a brighter shade of green as it feeds, ultimately becoming vivid emerald when fully sated. Every round the moss has spent draining life energy entitles characters to make another check to notice it, with a cumulative +1 bonus on the check per round after the first.

one question i need an answer to on these guys - as written, is it clear that they can form a vampiric link and then begin life drain in the same round? if not, how can i rewrite it so that it is clear?

Seems perhaps a bit too easy to detect. If you get four PC's doing spot checks every round, with continuously decreasing DC's, it'll probably only take a round or two to spot.

We may want to leave off the +1/rnd bonus. Just the fact that they get a new check every round is plenty of a bonus. It may not delay the discovery by all that much, but it's probably better than cranking up the camouflage DC.

i'm not bothered by the decreasing difficulty, though it might be a good idea to moderate it somehow or slow it down - after 10 rounds, it's only a DC 10, and 10 more rounds there is no DC. ;)
