Vampire: The Requiem

Makes me want to run a cross-over campaign, in which a WoD characters would dream of WoD2 characters... And vice-versa. Sometimes, events in the "dream" would affect reality, 'cause they would be parallel worlds or something like that.

I've hard that they are dividing the rules "World of Darkness" from the settings "Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, and so forth". Is this still true? ...as that was a pretty major selling point for me.

The closer the game gets the more (in my limited exposure) it seems to sound like that might not be the case. I'd be interested in a generic WoD book that allows me to add the various "creature" supplements that I want. I won't allow myself to get into another revision of a game that makes me buy basically the same book 3 times over.

Indeed, this is still the case. Both the WoD core rulebook and Vampire: The Requiem come out next month. Werewolf: The Foresaken follows several months after, and Mage: The Awakening several months after that.

Yes. This is still true. There will be a $20 World of Darkness book that goes over the entire Storyteller system, how to make normal humans, and a little bit about the supernatural.

Then you can get the Vampre, Werewolf, and Mage books that are about taking your mortal character and slapping a "template" on him. It'll have all the info about clans, bloodlines, etc.

Another good thing about the core WoD book is that it forces all three lines to have a common foundation. So if you want to do a Vampire/Werewolf cross-over, it'll be much easier than it was with the first WoD.

Unfortunatly, the elegant system of injury degrading ability had been nerfed so you only recieve penalties in the last 3 health levels " 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, -1, -2, -3, incapacitated". rather than 0, -1, -1, -2, -2, -5, incapacitated. I can only hope that living creatures get thier penaties sooner, otherwise its just a blatent case of system softening / player catering.

I don't get it. Sure, it's different, but how is it catering to the players? The enemies get the same thing.

I think the biggest change though is that the gothic prancing about DOES seem to have ended.

Old vampire: "Woe to me! I've become a forsaken creature of the night!"

New vampire: "I've become a forsaken creature of the night. Woe to YOU."

I don't see how that is supposed to work, considering that from the demo PDF, you still have Humanity. If you have Humanity, you can't just kick the butt of anyone you don't like, kill indiscriminately, or otherwise behave like a vampire, because you'll end up a raving lunatic. While I like Humanity as a story concept (and a powergamer's worst nightmare), I was kind of hoping that they'd have a less angsty game mechanic to replace it. It seemed to generate only melodrama of the weepy kind.

I was hoping that WOD2 would be more gritty and vulgar than WOD1, which was "dark" in the "my parents let me paint my room black so long as I keep a B average at school" sense of the word. I like my vampire fiction tragic, violent, and ultimately inhuman. While the downward spiral was a nifty idea, I'd like to give that puppy a rest. Not that I liked the Sabbat and their "omgwtf I |2 so 3v1L" shtick much better.

I'd rather see vampires portrayed as normal people who have been given the power to kill, and have had the normal aversion to doing so removed in the process, and explore how they deal with this very vicious and consequence-laden reality.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?

The game is 1 WoD book, then a different book for each Creature, so it's what you like, but...
WoD is $19.99, and Vamp is $34.99 (or, you can buy them both togethor for only 54.98!)

Assuming Mage & WW are also $34.99, you'll actually be spending more to get it this way than if each game was a complete game. Theoretically you'll get more material on each specific game since rules will be lessened, and the common rules will hopefully blend stuff better.
