Vampires resting domain

First Post
A little idea I had for a resting place for a vampire. Basically once a vampire is defeated it turns to mist and returns to it's coffin. Well I simply thought that an ancient vampire (created using Ravenloft's Vampires) I used would have his set in another plane. The vampire never leaves the room to fight as his coffin is closeby in a picture but it's a whole new area to explore which includes a small wood, a graveyard and small castle all filled with other worldly undead monsters. I don't know how this would have worked as I played this vampire in a 2e campaign and Chromatic orb cast by a high level mage managed to turn the vampire to stone. (I rolled all dice infront of the players back then, what a bad move)
I will try it one day in a 3e game and post how the pc's get around it.

In my world myth I have the Land of the Dead, which is a transitive plane. When a creature dies the soul/spirit is released to this plane and will travel to a gate to the proper afterlife. The plane looks mostly like a wasteland, grey and misty. It is also dangerous with creature that eat the souls and souls that do not have a place to go. Real world temples appear as safe havens (or evil ones). Have a PrC that I call The Walkers of the Dead, that acts as guides/guardians.

You could use something like that, the vampire moves to the plane. He is collecting souls/spirits to bring his body back to life or open a portal to the world.

Thanks. I must admit I hadn't laced a lot of thought into the vampires resting domain as I thought that the pc's would have been killed or forced to flee due to him being a 15th level mage / 5th level fighter and using the 2e ravenloft vampire immunities etc.
I'll use your idea, and possibly add a few more things of my own in some forthcoming 3e ravenloft adventures I'm going to run.

Sorry I killed your Vampire...Oopps !!!

Hiya Grishnak,

So sorry to kill your obviously well thought out Vampire. That was my spell wasn't it ? But it was your idea to roll in front of the players. Hahahaha.....Excellent Idea, though about having his resting place on another plane, that would indeed invite lots of sub-adventure plots and also encourage some resourcefull thinking from the PC's on how to get around defeting the Vampire in question. Is there such a thing as a Lyncanthrope/Fiendish/Corrupted/Dread/Vampire in Ravenloft ? coz if there is I wanna play him.....hahahaha !!! or have him as my Cohort....Doh !!! hahahahahaha !!.....See ya soon Dude !!! :D

Nope Hack it was Rinlorrens spell that defeated the said vampire. He used a combo of lower resistance then finished off with a couple of chromatic orbs where one got through.
It taught me a good lessen in that hiding the dice enables you to keep your well created enemies alive or undead (in this case) a little longer.
AS for the Lyncanthrope/Fiendish/Corrupted/Dread/Vampire in Ravenloft, there isn't 1 yet but could quite easily be made into a buzzing enemy that yopu have to face ;) hehehe
