Your understanding is correct.Shadowdancer said:It's my understanding thatthe surprise ending of the second "Apes" movie, the Tim Burton one, is the same original ending as the book. I've never read the book, but that is what I read on the Internet right after Burton's film came out.
I put this in spoiler mode so I wouldn't ruin the surprise ending for anyone who hasn't read the book.
More or less. The setting was different but otherise the ending was the same. In the original book, the protagonist was French and he returned to Paris rather than Washington DC. He also landed at the airport rather than at a monument. I read the original novel back when I was in middle school (in the 80s -- long before the newest movie) and was a bit surprised to learn that the ending was different from the movies. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Burton movie had the novel ending rather than the "Statue of Liberty" ending.
