"Veritas" --- the seed of a good d20 Modern campaign

JPL

Adventurer
A high-tech team of archeologists travel the world, digging up evidence of a lost ancient civilization. But mysterious forces want to steal the secrets of this forgotten empire --- including technology that modern science still can't explain.

It was not great TV watching, but take this premise, a copy of Dark Matter, and maybe some "Suppressed Transmissions" by Kenneth Hite, and you've got a damn fine game.

One of the great advantages of an RPG over weekly TV --- an unlimited special effects budget.

Yeah, but it might get better if they can get over the initial set-up stupidity. "I told you to stay in your hotel room!" Uhhh, did you miss the part where he said the bad guys were inside the hotel room and he over heard them get the order to kill everyone? "I don't want you to get involved so I won't tell you anything!" Uhhh, did you miss that they tried to kill him twice already? He's already pretty darn involved. And what, the tutor's coming along to Antarctica just because... well, we need a hot babe on the show, right?

Still, I have hopes this will shake up to better written episodes once they get all that set-up stuff out of the way. The Miracles show was much better, IMO.
