Versatile doubt

Weapons with the Versatile Property, can be used one-handed or two handed, so what kind of action is needed to change the form of using this weapon?

In my group I have a Warforged Fighter who uses a War Pick and a heavy shield attached to him.

Well, if the shield is attached , he can't use the weapon two handed. A warforged racial ability of "you have a third weapon-capable hand" is clearly overpowered.

I'd agree. Gripping the weapon with an empty hand should be a free action. Dropping an item is a free action as well.

Unless it is a shield, in which case it is a standard action

ah but the warforged character in the OP has an attached heavy shield...
What does it take to detach a heavy shield?

3E Trivia: Strapping on a shield in 3E could never be done as part of a move or via Quick Draw. I don't know at the moment how it works in 4E.

I ruled to my player which will take a minor action to change from one-handed to two-handed modes, this way don´t permiting the combo he was pretending (gain the higher damage from 2h and still gains the shield bonus to AC and Reflex).
