Very Important Question

werk

First Post
I'm meeting a new group for the first time this Saturday.

What should I take for snacks? :D

I usually try to go a little above and beyond for the first session, like I've taken a carrot cake from a local bakery that makes really amazing carrot cakes, or a bag full of BK double cheeseburgers.

At this time, I can't come up with anything better than bag snacks and beer.

Tacos! MMMM Tacos!

Taquitos. A nice big pack of them from Costco or somesuch. And be sure to brin 2/3 of a stick of butter. Melt the butter in a frying pan, and fry the Taquitos up. Serve hot, and dripping with butter. So tasty.

You should rely on your gaming more to make a first impression than what food you bring. No matter what you bring, someone may not like it. In our gaming group, about 2/3 love dark chocolate and 1/3 can't stand it. Some love caramel and hate peanut butter, some love peanut butter and hate caramel. Some love hot and spicy food, some hate it. And what a mess to order pizza! One guy only likes plain pepperoni, two can't eat onions, I can't eat green peppers, but everyone loves (and HAS to have) something someone else can't or won't eat.

All that being said, either bring what you like and if someone doesn't like it don't sweat it, or bring a variety. In our group, pizza rolls usually work, as do lasagna, cheese balls, and twizzlers (although all four on the same night would be REALLY gross! A cake or pie is always nice, but again, someone may not like the kind you bring. You might try a variety of chicken wings of different temperatures from a popular local wings joint. I like to turn people on to things they may have never tried, either from a little-known Mom-and-Pop place or by my own hand (I've made brats, BBQ chicken, spaghetti, and red beans and rice in the past).

It's rare that you can please everyone, but making an effort is usually appreciated.

I suggest two things; 1) greasy foods ruin books. Take something that doesn't drip grease everywhere. 2) more important than like or dislike is allergy/medical issues. You can't guess perfectly, but avoid peanuts and purely sweet stuff (like carrot cake :-( or chocolate) as your only choice.

Othewise - the dark chocolate sounds perfect to me...

I usually get a veggie plate w/dip sort of thing from the grocery store. Costs about the same, better for you, and no one ever seems to object. The dip might drip, but carrots & celery don't stain.

Or I just bring a bag of baby carrots.
