Vexing Flanker v Ignoble Escape

I dont see why anyone would pick VF against IE ?

VF gives you the opportunity to get into a CA position out of your tuen.

But with IE you can shift 6 or 7 squares on your tuen and find a CA position most of the time

PLUS: You have a long range "Shift" means of escaping an encounter if you have to.

It looks to me like IE offers you the opp. to escape and the same opp. for CA that VF offers ?

Am I missing something, I would value people's insight.

P.s.
Same question for "Adaptbale Flanker" and "Tumble"

Vexing Flanker lets you get into CA position out of turn, allowing the ally who just moved a better chance to hit and setting yourself up for Sneak Attack on your next turn. Ignoble Escape is more versatile, as it can allow you to escape combat or to get into CA position before your own attack, but can only be used during your turn and burns a move action. Plus IE requires Acrobatics training, which might not fit within some Rogue's concepts of their character.

Adaptable Flanker only uses a minor action compared to Tumble's move action, and you don't have to move from your (possibly superior) current position in order to take up a (possibly more dangerous) flanking position in order to get CA. Tumble is more versatile, but also again requires Acrobatics, and with a large enough enemy you may not even be able to make it into a flanking position with that 1/2 move.

In my mind, both pairs of utility powers reflect a decision as to what sort of rogue you want to be, and both are useful in different circumstances.

Exactly why I am having trouble deciding which ones to go for :)

I prefer Ignoble Escape over Vexing Flanker, because of the greater flexibility. I see it more as a get out of dodge power though.

However, I prefer Adaptable Flanker over Tumble. It's much more necessary when the enemy is up against a wall, or when you don't want to slink to the back of the enemy line. Tumble gets you in trouble more often than not. Sometimes if you start your turn adjacent to the target, it's even possible to use adaptable flanker to get the bonus, than shift away behind your fighter.

I like powers that increase the rogue's survivavility, and don't particularly like powers that put them in dangerous spots.

Nice thinking, I like it.

I was trying to work out which one to take.

And Ignoble Escape is a big escape for an Elf with speed (8 squares)
Adaptable Flanker is a safe CA.

Cheers

Ah, I see. I had read your post as basically saying that one choice in each pair was the "obvious" one, and you couldn't understand why someone would choose the other one, and I replied based on that. :)

Your right, I was, and a very very good answer.

But I do like the other 2 and wanted some detail from experienced players what the benefits of the the others were that my inexperience hadnt detected.

I have the powers I want on an excel sheet, and I keep changing back and forth.
Really, I want all 4.

Why don't you take one and test how it plays out. If you don't like it simply retrain it at the next level and choose the orther one.
And you can always choose a lower lvl power instead of a higher one. ;)
