Vigilance Press releases Clash of Kings: Guilds and Money

So what you're saying is, the title "Clash of Kings" made you click on this thread, but upon reading my post you were quickly able to see that my book was historical fantasy and not any attempt to rip off the Martin novel.

I see...

Well I can certainly see why that would upset you.

It's not about me being upset, it's about you using the name of a popular fantasy novel to attract attention to your product.

It's true that copyright law does not protect titles. There are, however, unfair competition laws that may be applicable. Allow me to quote from this page of Cornell Law School:

http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/index.php/Unfair_competition

"Other practices that fall into the area of unfair competition include: false advertising, "bait and switch" selling tactics, unauthorized substitution of one brand of goods for another, use of confidential information by former employee to solicit customers, theft of trade secrets, breach of a restrictive covenant, trade libel, and false representation of products or services."

That's the sort of trouble you are courting. Maybe you don't care. You friends clearly don't. The safer course would be to steer clear of this sort of stuff, particularly if (as you say) you didn't know this was the title of popular novel before you released it.

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the subject. Good luck on your future endeavors.

But it's NOT the name of a popular novel! A Clash of Kings is hardly Clash of Kings: Guilds and Money!

Just wanted to let folks know that Guilds and Money gets a mini-review this week in Daniel Perez's must-listen podcast for the historical gamer the Gamer Traveler.

So if you haven't made up your mind about the book yet, give Daniel's fine podcast a listen, you'll learn a little more about the book.

You can find the podcast at the link below and also at fine podcatching sites, including Itunes.

You beat me to it. :)

Yep, even though I messed up the name of the product during recording (doh!), it gets high marks. Give it a listen (it's Episode 04 - Brussels).
