Vile Darkness as an official resource

Wotc is just using BOVD to "road"block those who try to argue using evil descriptor spells is not an evil act.

Mmh... I think the LG adventure writing guidelines forbid giving access to anything from BoVD to the players. A writer I know has several times tried to slip past Profession (torturer) checks, but they've always been caught and removed by the editors.

On the other hand, the one adventure I've written does feature a monster from the book, and it got sanctioned without a hitch.

Some of the material in the BoVD has been redone/reprinted in other books (post the upgrade to 3.5). There are vile feats a couple of recent books. If you can find what you want in a different source book, try running that past the DM?

I say yes, what Vile Darkness + Exalted Deeds says is evil is, in fact evil, but there are those who insist either that its not used in Living Greyhawk, so not valid, or that its not 3.5, so not valid.

Personally I go with Wizards wrote it and an increasing frequency of supplements include Vile feats for villains: Its Authoritive!
