Vin Diesel Once Again Speaks About DND

Damn! Who do they get to DM for the freakin' POPE? I bet there aren't many rules disputes at THAT table.

You wanna know the funny part? The pope's character is one of those clerics that doesn't worship a god, just a concept!

Now, THAT'S irony!

Don't forget our own John Roger, writer of the Core and Catwoman!
He is no longer in our midst, for he hath been exiled into the desert wastes for his atrocities. Vin came close with XXX, and only my fond memory Pitch Black and The Fast and the Furious saved him from my righteous judgement.

Uh, B.K., it's the best game story in town. Vin's from NYC. Vin's a gamer. Do you think he WOULDN'T have been there?

I bet he's even riddnen the subway, and been to times square. (gasp!)

;)

Dude, I'm from Brazil and even I have been to the Compleat Strategist!

That's where I bought my AD&D 2e: PHB, DMG, Monstrous Compendium (Vol 1&2, in the binder), City of Greyhawk box, Kara-Tur box, dice (including the infamous golf ball known as the d100), all this back in January 1990!

Man, I'm old...

I think it is great that he "admits" to playing D&D. Even if it is all just a publicity stunt (which I highly doubt) it raises the status of gamers everywhere by making gaming more "mainstream".

My roommate is planning on inviting him to a game at our house should we happen to run into him at GenCon. ;)

Now all we need is Vin to be caught with Child Pornography or something similar. :p

"Vin Diesel caught with kiddie porn! Film at Eleven!"

"Does Dungeons and Dragons promote Child Porn? Story at Six!"

"Wizards of the Coast investigated for Criminal Negligence!"

He'd better keep clean, or we'll rise up and stone him with d20's. :)

From USA Weekend June 4-6 edition (by Jamie Malanowski), the opening paragraph :

The world is full of people who spent chunks of their childhoods playing Dungeons and Dragons, but hardly any played quite as cool a version as Vin Diesel did. The son of a theater director, Diesel grew up in Manhattan housing development reserved for actors, dancers and others in the arts. "The way we played was very theatrical," he says. "When we had maps, the maps were pieces of art, and when the players had to do something, they performed it. I was Melkor." Disel jumps up and announces the name in a voice so deep it could jiggle bedrock. He grins ear to ear. "When an arrow flew past your head in our game, it flew past your head!"

I know I'm going to sound... well... mean... but...

who cares?

I mean, tell me the president or the pope plays D&D and I'll considerthat worth noting. But Vin... I already knew he played. It's not news to anyone. I play too; no one make a big deal of it.

But, maybe I'm just ornery. Who knows.

I understand your point, but Vin has a recognizable name and therefore lends some credibility to D&D when you mention his name to people unfamiliar with our hobby. For example, when I talk to a friend about playing D&D and she calls me a nerd, I say "well, Vin Diesel plays D&D." And she says, "oh." ;)

I bet he already posts here, but doesn't want his identity known. Here, he can blend in as "just another D&D geek" and not have to deal with hordes of raving fanboys.

At one point a thread started up "what famous people play D&D" and somebody posted - with one post on the account - that they were Elijah Woods and they play D&D and normally post under another name. Somebody else posted (also using an alternate account) and said they were Carrot Top - another D&D gamer who usually posts under a secret identity.

Of course, it's entirely possible - probable even - that these posters were just regular enworlders creating an alternate account to do a prank post in the celebrities' name, but the possiblity of celebreties among us is kind of cool.

And I could see why a prankster would pick Elijah Woods, but Carrot Top? That's an unusual choice for a prank, which leads me to think it might be real.
