In all descriptions of low-light vision it says : an x can see twice as far as a human can see.

My question is, without a light source, during the night outside, with a full moon, how far can a human see?

If you read the DMG and PHB and take them literal, any time the sun goes down, and the human has no light source, he cannot see...

Now, we all know that we can see fairly decent at night with a full moon. So, how far can a human see?

All good questions...

I was shocked and horrified when I finally realized that Elves no more see at night as a Human does during the day!...

I'd say any distance, but moonlight only provides shadowy illumination. If you want to make a distinction, you could houserule that in areas of shadowy illumination, creatures without low-light vision get a -2 to Spot checks per 10 ft. of distance instead of -1.

Pretty far, actually, even as far as during day.

What we lose is colors and details. It becomes blurry and indistinct.

But if you're up a mountain and look at snow-covered plains, during a full moon, you'll see as far as you could during day.

The proper question would be "at which distance can you discern things that aren't white".

We've always treated a full-moon as 'low-light approved' so to speak. We let low-light see normally in dimly lit settings and then let those without see with a penalty. Of course, we don't follow this pattern in other situations (like torch lights) so I guess moon-light is special in our games.

There's a full moon right now and I can see hills that are several kilometers away. So far that, even in broad daylight, I can only see the houses that are built on with magnifiers.

There's no limit. Look up on a clear night, preferably with no light sources. You can see stars that are light years away. Spot DC -10c or so, where c is the speed of light :D

There's supposed to be a distance modifier somewhere, -1 per 10 ft. distance, modified as the DM sees fit.

I would double the penalties for humans (but not elves) at night. That's just my take though.
