VOP and a Druid

Inconsequenti-AL

Breaks Games
Edit - I probably should mention that by VOP I mean Vow Of Poverty.

I was just wondering how well these two things would click together?

I'm guessing many of the bonuses would also apply in animal forms - which could be somewhat.... messy.

Has anyone tried or seen this? Did it work well?

Any thoughts?

Unless there was errata that I'm not aware of, all VoP bonuses still apply while in wild shape.

I've heard scary things down with VoP, wildshape, touch of golden ice, exalted wildshape, and a few other abilities that escape me at the moment.

Vow of Poverty, Druid(5)/Warshaper(5)/Epic Shifter(11), Human Saint.

That's Demetian, and he's DARNED nice in combat - without Exalted Wildshape (yet)!

V/Pov works REALLY well for anyone who changes shape on a regular basis, since you don't have to even think about which equipment melds, and which gets to keep working - you don't have any magic gear to worry about!

Yet, even fully wildshaped, you get all the Enhancement Bonus goodness you could wish for, including on your physical attributes.

I've done a lot of looking at Clerics and VoP and it works pretty well (similar to druids but no wild shape stuff). Some spells are impossible to cast, and some just inconvenient with the extra XP in place of expensive spell components. I would not allow (and have not even discussed with my DM ) any spells with very special components to use the XP for gold rule, spells that, for example, trap a person inside an opal worth at least 5,000 gp. No XP substitution for that one. However, XP substitution should be allowed for resurrections, restoration, etc., where the expensive component is basically just money (crushed diamond, whatever)

My DM has allowed the three +2 saving throw feats to count as exalted feats to help with the fact that the number of exalted feats available to any VoP character is very limited - you almost have to take every single available feat, and that's pretty limiting.

Good luck with this!! It can be a bit of a challenge - already my character must get 8 hours rest while the rest of the party all got a gift that allows them to need only 2 hours a night.

Nice rule! Makes a lot of sense and adds some variety there. I like that one... If I get to putting this character together I'll ask.

Out of curiosity - how/why did this come about? Was it a 'balancing act'?

Sounds like they all bought Rings of Sustenance and his VoP prevents him from doing the same.

That's one of the items I always like to pick up, anyway...

What exalted feats do you have? If you have had vow of poverty for awhile (it can be gained at first level) by now you should pretty much be out of exalted feats to get ;)

Essentially - actually the whole party was awarded them as a gift, but my character could not accept.

None, actually - at least, not from VoP.

The first thing that happened to the Vow of Poverty in the Exodus, is that the bonus exalted feats got stripped out of it - it deeply offends me to think of one feat giving you more feats.

Oh, and the Player's Guie to Faerun has a new Exalted feat. I haven't bothered to read the details, adn don't recall the name offhand, but ... it looks like the setting books will start to have "expended source" support from now on (PGFR has some epic-related content, some BoED-related content, some PsiHB-related content, and some BoVD-related content ...).

As for Spellcasters with the V/Pov ... I'd say that gets a DARNED sight easier at Epic levels. Three words:

Ignore ...

Material ...

Components!

*poof*, every material component ever conceived of, goes the way of the dodo for you. Very handy, when you can't own any material components at all! ^_^

Guess you also really hate the psionic one as well then. Exalted feats are mostly pretty unimpressive, and what you have to give up for vop makes a need for something other than the non-feat benefits that it gives.. but it might just be more apparently when starting from first.. many things are broken/overpowered in the epic areana.. very unfortunate.

anyway though, hope it works out well for you ;)
