Vorpal?

long long ago in a 2E campaign, I once created a vorpal mace... just as much fun as the sword, but much messier

We had the same thing in 1E - the 'Mace of Mashing'

I'll jump from behind these barrels here and say it again: vorpal should not be allowed as is. Usually, I change it so vorpal doesn't sever heads per se, but if you crit with a vorpal weapon, you make a CdG - so you get damage (maybe even with sneak attack), and if you survive that, you must make a fort save (DC = 10 + damage dealt) or die anyway.
