Vow of Poverty Loophole?

Simple the apostle was originally designed to use either a different vow, or a number of generic vows and they never bothered to change the armor thing after switching over to VoP.

Even if you could convince someone of the specific to general rule applying (which it doesn't since the feature is in fact non-specific thus the problem). You still can't own the items so you'd be at best able to borrow something for a while until the DM decided you were pushing the limits of the term.

Seems reasonably likely. That might make it RAI, but not RAW.

I see your point, but if RAW says you can use them, that overcomes the VoP. Now you just have to structure your loot division properly, if playing strict RAW.

Of course, the DM is free to push back as much as they want if they feel this is cheesy. Personally, it's such a weak combo, that I would allow it to a point (that point being the MIC rules which basically allow you to add any property to a magic item).

Of course there's that whole pesky "Can't hurt anybody" thing... but consider a wizard or Sorcerer who makes intelligent use of this loophole.

Until you can find a way for a Blessed Book to give you a defensive bonus, no wizard, ever, will take the Vow of Poverty. Even then, it's sketchy even when the spell writing into your book is free that you can just use up scrolls (ie, treasure) for that purpose. And assuming you somehow made it to level 10ish when you can actually afford a blessed book (how were you saving up for it along the way, anyway?) without any spellbook at all! So yeah, this might be cool for VoP SORCERERS.

Even an Eidetic Wizard?

Even an Eidetic Wizard?

An eidetic wizard doesn't need a spellbook for his free spells from leveling, but he still needs expensive incense to add any additional spells, which would not be available via this loophole. It's not really a good choice unless you're using Collegiate Wizard and the elven wizard substitution levels to get a bunch of extra free spells per level, and even then it's not really worth it compared to just playing a wizard without VoP.

The average income of a begger is insufficient to purchase the materials for spell research, if the lack of begger wizards is anything to judge by,

Begging is generally associated with consumables. I don't think the rules support begging expensive magic items off your friends. I'm pretty sure that's technically mooching.
