Vow of Poverty, Purity, etc. for non-good characters

How would you handle various ascetic/purity vows for non-good characters. I can easily see, for example, a lawful neutral character being an ascetic - yet he/she would not be allowed to take the vow of poverty, vow of purity, vow of... Heck, I can even imagine an Lawful Evil character following some ascetic code for some reason.

Has anyone created similar vows for non-good characters? Basically, vows that do not have alignment requirements - they merely require adherence to the vow.

The problem is that the Vow feats are basically a good-aligned counter to Vile Deformity and the follow-ons from the BoVD. However, I do agree that they would fit very well with Lawful alignments. Heck, if you change the descriptive text for the Deformity feats, you could open them to other alignments too - remove the ickier aspects to make them scarification rituals, extreme tattoing or something similar.

Back to your point, Vow of Obedience is perfect for a strongly Lawful character, regardless if they are good or evil. I could also imagine a Vow of Dominance, the character gains bonuses to Intimidate etc to make others obey him, due to his iron resolve.

More if I think of them, but too tired now :(

Hmm, perhaps the vows would have to be weakened somehow in order to take into account that the character taking them does not have to restrict himself/herself to exalted alignment requirements.

Yeah - It would take a bit of work to re-engineer the mechanics, which seem ( to me anyway ) to be the main problem with the idea. Start with modifying/replacing Sacred Vow ( preq. feat for the other vow feats ) and see how far you get. Balance may be an issue, because just reversing the spririt of the vows from good to evil could lead to severe balance issues.

Well, yes, I am guessing the feats would need to be weakened to be universal.
