Voyager I at the edge of the solar system

I remember the Voyager launches as a little kid, and waiting for them to get to Jupiter.

The close ups of Jupiter seemed to be enormously important to me. It seemed like we were going from reaching the moon, to exploring the outer planets, to colonizing Mars. Nothing seemed beyond us.

Now I read about Voyager, and the edge of interstellar space...

... I don't know if I should feel proud of what we've accomplished, or sad that we don't seem to have that same vision anymore , or just old.

I think I'll have some fudge.

PS

I kinda like Krazy Bitchin' Orb. The Kuiper Belt is essentially something like the asteroid belt only much more expansive in the area it covers, and the objects are icy rather than rocky. Pluto and Charon are two of the largest so far found (Pluto is indeed the largest by quite a large margin, although it is smaller than many moons in the solar system) and is in a special Neptune resonance orbit. There are other "zones" of the belt that have other orbital characteristics.

Didn't you hear? We're down to 8 planets now. Pluto has been downgraded to a KBO.

Is that official yet? I know quite large group of astronomers are now calling Pluto a KBO but I thought that the International Astronomical Union is keeping Pluto a planet though is does question its' status. Pluto is considered a TNO: Trans-Neptunian Object.

Let's see if I can post a link: www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/pluto-ez.html

Hey it worked! :) That is from 1999 so things might have changed.

Here's another article that talks about Pluto having "Dual Citizenship" from 2001: www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/plutos_citizenship_010130.html

There's alot more articles on www.space.com's website. I looked at just a handful but they all mentioned Pluto as a planet but I couldn't find a recent article.

Joshua could you post a link on that information I'm curious to read it. Thanks.

Kuiper Belt! Pfah!

Gosh-darn it! In my day, Pluto was Yuggoth, the Fungi were at home there, and we LIKED IT THAT WAY!

*babble*
*drool*

/snip/
To further hijack the thread. Here is the final word from the IAU. The Status of Pluto. This is from 1999. Basically, Pluto is a planet.

PS

I think your second choice, while the most depressing, is the correct choice.
