Walk on water

Ironhorn

Quick, simple question for yea guys. Can a Paladin give his Special Mount a potion of "Walk on Water", then mount his trusty steed and run off into the ocean?

Absolutely not!

When his steed is under the effects of a Water Walking spell, he can't go underwater. On the ocean, sure, no problem.

Sorry, that's what I ment. I'm doing a ship-based campaign and I want to surprise everyone by charging across the water on my Heavy Warhorse. ;)

Thanks for the info.

Charging might be tricky - ocean water is constantly in a little bit of motion; check with your DM, the constantly changing bumps and stuff might make Charging impossible.

Do note what a good, full power attacking, Spirited Charge can do to the side of a boat, though....

Nothing to say to that but lol.

When I say charging, I don't nessesarily mean a movement action with a free attack at the end. I just mean trotting across the water towards the enemy.

You need to get your horse some of these:

Horseshoes of a Zephyr

These four iron shoes are affixed like normal horseshoes. They allow a horse to travel without actually touching the ground. The horse must still run above (always around 4 inches above) a roughly horizontal surface. This means that nonsolid or unstable surfaces can be crossed, and that movement is possible without leaving tracks on any sort of ground. The horse moves at its normal base land speed. All four shoes must be worn by the same animal for the magic to be effective.

Faint transmutation; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, levitate; Price 6,000 gp;Weight 4 lb. (for four).

Yep, water walk affects any creature... and as long as the paladin doesn't exceed his allowed load- you're good to go.

Yes, that works. The horse might need to make a Balance check in rough water, or perhaps a Jump check to clear the breaking waves near the beach, but other than that there's no problem.

Just be sure your paladin has a backup plan. If the horse gets dispelled or killed, or if the rider gets knocked off, he's going to end up wet. That swim back to shore can be awfully hard in heavy armor.
