D&D (2024) How Do I Make a Beast Rider?

I take it that you want to be a Beast Mastery Ranger who rides their companion? Rather than just having a horse, or summoning a steed?

I appreciate everyone's feedback. A lot of it is stuff I've gone over as well, so glad to know I was on the right track.

When I originally played this character, I was using a kit that didn't exactly have game balance in mind. Kits in those days were all over the place in those regards. As he was overpowered in 2e, it stands to reason that some rules might have to be bent for a 5e 2024 version.

What I have decided to go with is a beast master ranger. The animal companion will be a size large. I'm also giving it the ability to speak with its owner telepathically, like the Find Steed spell does.

Anyway, my thanks to you all. There have been a lot of great ideas and I'm glad to know that I wasn't completely crazy.

If you don't mind your mount being a mini-dragon instead of a white tiger, there's always the Drakewarden subclass for Fizban's Treasury of Dragons. Maybe you can have a white drake companion, or work with your DM to adapt the drake companion into a tiger companion (but the flying part won't make sense).
