Walking with swords

Yes. While wearing full plate, a fully loaded backpack and a tower shield. Oh, and a helm.
Full plate might not feel as heavy as it really is when you're wearing it, due to the distribution of weight, but tavern chairs know only aggregate weight.

Does anyone else remember the story of Sean Bean when filming LOTR refusing to take the helicopter and hiking up some mountain in full Boromir attire?

Nerds still do that here.

Personally I would use a spear instead and wear brigandine armor if you wanted to LARP.

Its about a 4 or 5 hour drive from my place.

Fairly pointless unless youre a hard core nerd. There's nicer spots that are closer. I would go to Peel Forest instead or head west to Mount Aspiring.

Basically looks like that from central Otago up through North Canterbury.

Reminds me of where "Baelin's Route" was shot, though pretty sure there was a road conveniently located just out of shot for that.

Yup.

Part of the hobbit was filled here.

Theres a road bridge, campsite etc right there. Near my mother's hometown and old summer holiday spot;)

Makes sense that I'd get that vibe then, though I've never seen the third film in the trilogy.
