Players remember Battlemaps and the combat that occurred on them. Even the generic ones.
Agreed, actually; there's no such thing as a "generic" map for a dungeon.
There might be generic maps for inns & taverns ("Hey, anyone else notice this place looks familiar?"), roads and 'forest', ("I know we've passed that tree stump before"), and maybe some other not-quite-dungeons-but-fights-happen-there-sometimes occasions (graveyards, sailing ships).
But yeah, players notice (disapprovingly) if all the orcs, then ogres, then trolls, then giants live in the same cave. "Dungeon" battlemaps are one-hit-wonders (per group; you could use 'em again with a different group), just like adventures.
...although, if is a cave keeps getting re-occupied... ...that could be kind of amusing, I suppose; if it was
literally the same cave... ...hmmm...
