Want to know how desperate I am for some gaming lately?

I've actually been watching people play D&D on various Youtube videos. And finding it somewhat interesting. B-)

Yep, I'm desperate for a gaming fix all right. ;)

The next step is to kidnap people and force them to play, keeping them awake for power gaming sessions that last for days. Feeding them only junk food and highly caffienated beverages, all while making them paint minitures at gun point.

" No Michael! a half orc would not have shamrock green skin, they have olive skin! Are you mocking me?! It's lampshade time for you!"

Ahem and no I have never done this or anything like it.....
uh yeah...
Good luck with finding a game.

It's an odd shot, but have you considered some of the play by posts at Enworld, or online game-table sites like openRPG and such? Getting into two or three frequent-posting PBP's might help the fix some.

Actually Henry, that reminds me of something. Do you (or anyone else, of course) know what happened to that whole "virtual tabletop" thing? Are they still doing that?

I don't have a face to face gaming group right now for a variety of reasons, but I joined a couple of PbP here and now I'm substantially happier. :)

I am running a game using Skype and Maptools. We have one player in Dallas, TX; one in Conway, AR; three in Fayetteville, AR; and me in Mustang, OK.

I'm kind of at the end of my rope for running game (though I'm giving PbP games a try, without much luck). That said, I think might be bailing on the hobby entirely soon. It sucks up far too much of my time, energy, and money for far too little return these days.

I think I've pretty much gotten all of the enjoyment out of roleplaying that it has to give me. Anymore, it's all about hanging out with the other players, moreso than it is about the games. I find wargames, boardgames, and card games to be far more engaging and accessible as I grow older.

Take a peek at a few of these:

Fantasy Grounds 2 Fantasy Grounds :: The Virtual Tabletop for Pen & Paper Roleplaying Games one time fee for the game table, very active player community

Maptools Home [RPTools] free, fairly active community

Screenmonkey ScreenMonkey v1.5 only the GM needs the software, everyone else logs in via web

Battlegrounds Battlegrounds Home One time fee for the game table... constant updates but player pool is fairly stagnant

Klooge kLoOge.inc. Another one time fee deal. Not sure how active development is but there is an active player base of sorts

There are others and you can check here for a decent listing of links RPG Virtual Tabletop - The Virtual Tabletops

WotC VTT is vaporware so far, but time will tell.

Most of my personal experience is with Fantasy Grounds 2, but all the ones I've listed I've checked out.

Best of luck.

There's definitely something to be said for boardgames and card games (never really been into war games as such). I've found that Arkham Horror, when played with the Dunwich Horror expansion and some nifty "Dunwich Detective" miniatures, is pretty close to an RPG experience--with zero prep time and no DM/GM needed.

So yeah, I hear what you're sayin', James. I'm on/off again with gaming lately, but something keeps drawing me back, wanting to get a campaign up and running or something. Remains to be seen if it happens--or if I even really want it to (although I'm pretty sure I do!).
