want to know more about Arcana Evolved, Blue Rose, or Grim Tales to do D&D-style game

By the way, Kenson, big props on Blue Rose. It's become the basis for the universal modern system I've been toiling on for years. Really, nicely done. I plan on using a variant of its design for my first official-type gaming release.

Ooo, a jonrog1 production. I'll be very interested in seeing some sort of M&M type modern game.

My players, who initially all hated M&M, now love the system. Whenever I think up a new idea for a good game, my players all say: "Hrm, now, we could do that with M&M ..."

Haven't gotten Blue Rose yet. Avoiding it for now, as I don't want to muddy my waters any more than they are. We're running two modern games (Urban Arcana and Dark*Matter) and a GrimTales game on Sundays.

My Dark*Matter magic system is already based on Psychic's Handbook and the original Alternity magics. From what I hear, BR's system is quite similar. I want to look ... but am still resisting mightily. I've been working on a Full Metal Alchemist system based on GT and the BCCS magic system.

I have both GT & C&C. GT is if anything even more complex & crunchy than 3e D&D, esp in character generation - definitely not what you want. C&C does indeed sound like the simpler D&D-style game you're looking for. Dunno about BR.

My interest in Blue Rose was definitely piqued by this thread. Of the three, BR is quite d20 Lite (I don't own C&C, but I do own GT).

Only 3 classes, Defense from d20M, Reputation from d20M, no PrC, no skill points (known skills are assumed to be at their maximum rank), no AoO, no Damage Rolls (Uses Toughness, like M&M?), no Multiple Attacks (this last one bothered me a little), Wealth System, No assumption that every PC needs X,XXXgp of Magic Items.

Character creation:
6 Base d20 Stats start at 0. Distribute 6 points. You can lower attributes below 0 to gain more points for distrubution. Maximum is +5/-5.
Apply racial modifiers
Choose Class
Choose Good Saving Throws, Choose Favored (Class) Skills, Choose Known Skills, Choose x number of Favored Skills as your starting skills. Selected favored skills always have a rank of Level + 3, while selected non-favored skills ( Level + 3 )/ 2. Pick your feat.
Buy equipment

The rules are *not* tied to the Romantic Fantasy genre specifically. There are feats like having discovered True Love in one's lifetime, but all in all the rules could be used for a number of genres.

I really like GT for my Modern gaming, but you will find it far too similar to 3.x to be the change you are looking for, judging by your specific questionss. I picked up a copy of Blue Rose, but have yet to give it a proper once-over. C&C is our current game of choice for Fantasy, but since you arent considering that, I suspect that Blue Rose will be lite enough for you. Mighty nice of Steve Kenson to give us a proper heads up on the system. Sounds nice.
