Waraxe vs Bastard Sword

Honestly tho...

Crit-fishing Twin-Strike-using Screw-defense-I-have-attacks Ranger's done to death.

Take Twin Strike, another at-will and some daily and encounter powers you'll probably never use, items and feats that say + to damage or attack, roll two dice on your turn, and then fall asleep while people overthink the game.

It's really the "faceroll retadin" of D&D.

It's easier for a ranger to meet current and future feat requirements for a heavy blade than it is for an axe. Dexterity is something you want anyways, and it makes you less MAD.

HBO + Twin Strike is way cool, dude.

 Sorry, but I like my dwarf TWF ranger. Dex 12, chain proficiency and using two Waraxes (Dwarven Weapon Training). Will met feat requirements easily. (epically now, as you can choose the racial bonus to be str & con).

Why always the talk that TWF rangers need high dex?

Because, while dwarf two-weapon rangers using Waraxes are AWESOME, what Dracosuave is saying that the most straightforward (and boring) way to make a ranger effective at all levels is to use a Str/Dex ranger using heavy blades.

That is not to say there's no other effective way to do things - or that those aren't more fun - but the 'ultra-optimized' two-weapon ranger uses either heavy or light blades. See post number #15 in this thread for some examples from WotC Charop (sorry, direct linking to the post doesn't seem to work properly).

They don´t need it. Cain mail proficiency does well enough.

A high dex melee ranger however can stay in light armor and can do great ranged attacks with twin strike... so it really depends in what you prefer...

Draco: there are at-wills, encounter and dailies that are either: better than twin strike, or so different that they are useful once in a while...

especially in low levels, where twin stike is barely better than a melee base attack...

There are encounter's that are minor actions or reactions that don't get in the way of the twin striking & the dailies are super good. It is the most uninteresting class there is & somewhat OP as doubling static mods was not properly balanced.

Hmm actually bow rangers are the dull ones - the melee ones do have to worry about getting thumped.

Spending a second feat so you can use Waraxes when you can use that feat to up your damage might be a damage loss.

2d12 from high crit sounds impressive, but that's an average damage of 13... it doesn't swing your damage by that much during paragon compared to the old standbys.

Not so much the ranged attack aspect, but really, having two commonly attacked defenses high is better than just one.

Not all that often, until you get Blade Cascade.

If your first feat is Superior weapon proficiency, Level 1 is too high a level for this to apply.
