Warforged and Dispel Magic

Can Warforged be dispelled with dispel magic or with greater dispel magic? If so, how would one determine the caster level for the Warforged in order to make a dispel check? I am assuming, from various things I've read, that they cannot be affected by this spell, but I just want to make sure before I make it official for my players.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time looking for a ruling on this, but have not been successful. If it has been discussed elsewhere I’d appreciate it if you pointed me in that direction. Thanks!

Warforged are not true constructs... they are a special case called Living Constructs. Once the animation magic that created them was cast, they gained a semblence of life, and were no longer magical beings in the strict sense (magical origins, but just like other races now).

You can not dispel them and cause them to cease functioning any more than you might dispel magic on an elf (which some might say also have magical origins).

NO they can't in the same way that a Golem can't be dispelled. The magic that created them is only active during the creation oprocess after that it is no longer in effect and thus can't be dispelled.

They are creatures. In general you cannot 'dispel magic' creatures and expect it to do anything to them directly ;)

Golems are also uneffected by dispel magic, in case that helps.

Undead are also uneffected.

Even constructs can't be dispelled. If a Golem is hit by a Dispel Magic, Greater Dispel Magic, or even a Mordenkainen's Disjunction spell, it is not affected whatsoever (unless, of course, it has spells active on it, in which case that spell or spells are dispelled). A construct is a creature, not an object- and thus, isn't affected.

As you can guess, then, Warforged are no more affected by a Dispel Magic spell than a Human is- nor is an Iron Golem. The only creatures that would be affected by Dispel spells are animated objects- which are only animated objects because of the spell animating them (which has a duration). Other constructs aren't animated by spells, and thus have no duration to end.

Note, also, that you can't dispel a normal golem or other construct, either. They also function perfectly well inside an Antimagic area.

• Golems and other constructs, elementals, outsiders, and corporeal undead, still function in an antimagic area (though the antimagic area suppresses their spellcasting and their supernatural and spell-like abilities normally). If such creatures are summoned or conjured, however, see below.

Yup. It's why if you have problems with NPC casters using dispel magic to suppress your Winged Boots, have them made intelligent...
