Warforged/Genasi Origin Stories

This is actually one of the first Dragon articles I really don't care for. To me, this is a puff piece. They could've provided this article free, because really, it's just a fluff piece directed at FR and Eberron for only two races. They could have wrote this with an eye towards helping those that don't run FR/Eberron.

Only a few of these are really portable. One thing that annoys me about the WF article portion is that 80% is "Wizard did it."

I kind of like it. Maybe just because I play a couple of warforged characters in the Forgotten Realms. :P

I think that saying that fluff should be free and crunch should be subscription isn't really fair. Some of the most beloved articles in Dragon-of-old (see (un)reason's excellent thread here for a review from the start) were pure fluff.

I suppose that saying that the fluff is maybe too focused/limited, though, could be a valid criticism.

It's not so much that it's just fluff and therefore should be free.

It's that it's such a specific fluff, in such a small article, that I don't think it's worth paying for. This little, limited article took the place of something that could've been better.

I kind of wish it had more substance, but I appreciate the mild Planescapeyosity that appears to be in the background of these articles.

"For the 2% of DDI subscribers that might find an article this specific of any use, here's a whole bunch of crap that you probably could have thought up on your own, six minutes before making the character!"

Gotta agree with Rechan here, this article brings sand to a beach.

Although if you ARE one of the twenty people who this article is geared towards, enjoy!

But hey, only ten days until the 26th. :)

Fairly decent article I thought, some usable things in it.

For the Warforged, the "Lantan's Remnant" background could be a lot of fun to play. The "Stranger in a Strange Land", while cliched, can also be a nice base for building an interesting character around, expecialy if you are starting at Paragon or near Paragon levels.

The Genasi backgrounds are probably more interesting, although I probably don't know enough of the Eberron Lore to appreciate them as they should be. The "Chaos Voyager" background is fascinating, does anyone know of any other referances to Genasi storm surfing that I could read up on?

Edit: (Premature posting) The "Seventh King of Greywall" or a variation thereof could also be interesting.

Also, it should be noted that not all the DDI articles are aimed at the Enworld demographic (DM, mid 30's or older on average, 20 years + rpg experience), and articles like this are invaluable for less experience players and DM's as examples of how you can incorporate new races or classes into an established setting on a small scale.
