Warforged/Genasi Origin Stories

I am glad to have the fluff. Dragon has gotten a little too crunchy.

This is pretty specific. It can be used for more then the realms or eberon (sic), but ya.

Still, no minding the lack of stats.

I'd rather have Lantan back, given that they destroyed it in 4e.
They did?! Man, I'm glad I'm not interested in 4e FR. I rather like Lantan. :) Is Rashemen still around? That was another area rarely focused on in previous FR material that I really enjoyed.

As for a fluff piece, I am very happy to see that since the magazine has been very crunchalicious, and I like things much more balanced. I am always looking for new inspirations in addition to new mechanics. In fact, my ideal is a 60/40 fluff/crunch ratio, but I'm happy as long as it isn't too skewed in one direction.

As for it being too specific, I think the problem is one of the drawbacks of having articles spread throughout the month. Back in the printed form, if there was an article too specific to be useful, you just flipped a couple pages and you were onto something else. But getting a trickle of articles spread out is nice so that you don't have to wait an entire month between new content, but on the downside, sometimes a new package of content will be completely useless to you. It's a trade-off.

I could see it as a free "use this book tonight" type of artile on the WoTC web page... But Dragon has always throughout its history had stuff liek this in it.

Advice for players of the game.

Had this much fluff been in the two articles already written on these races, then we would have a nearly perfect article. As it is, part of the problem is that we've already had articles on each of these races. This seems like it is some of the fluff cut from the other two articles, and mashed together.

My issue is that this is the 2nd article on each of these races, while we don't have anything on most other races.

I enjoyed it. I know its just a fluff piece, but it was a fun fluff piece. Lets face it, the sort of people who hang out on ENWorld probably don't need help writing character backgrounds. But that doesn't mean that these articles have no place in Dragon.

Its not like the backgrounds are only usable if you actually want to transfer these races between these two settings. They're useful in a lot of contexts, if you make relatively simple changes.

Cut and paste error, "Playing a Genasi in Eberron", 3rd paragraph (page 5 in the PDF, page 74 in the issue): "Once you choose an origin story for your warforged character..."

Dragon 371: Origin StoriesOnly a few of these are really portable. One thing that annoys me about the WF article portion is that 80% is "Wizard did it."

That's not really fair. The Canonical origin story for WF is "Wizard did it".

For people who are familiar with the FR or Eberron settings, coming up with this stuff would be no sweat. For people who aren't, though, it's nice that they provide a way to tie your character background with the world background.

Even when a wizard did it, deciding which wizard can make all the difference.
