Found this tidbit in a review that has me quite looking forward to the movie.

Further problems are presented by the number and sequential order of the battles, which occupy at least half of the running time, with each getting bigger and bigger in terms of participants, weaponry, and violent acts. Though employing state-of-the-art f/x, the combats register as rather conventional, and at times even old-fashioned, recalling Hollywood's swasbuckling pictures of yesteryear.
Sounds good to me!

I'm looking forward to this. The trailers I've seen look good and I just finished reading the entire series so it's pretty fresh in my mind.

I don't know... the battles in the Prince Caspian trailer look like 2nd-rate LotR meets Apocalypto to me. I loved the whimsical, fairy-tale-characters-go-to-war look of the 1st movie. That seems to be missing. Of course, it could just be the trailer...

It is not just the trailer from what the critics are saying. Whimsy has been traded for more war. :melee: I wish a blood drenched fantasy movie could get a $100,000,000 budget.

... Caspian's great. I managed to go to an advanced screening of the film last night, and there were actually parts where the audience clapped and cheered. As a bigtime Narnia book fan, I liked this one a lot better than the first one. I thought the liberties they took with the book were all appropriate, added to the film without detracting from the book. (Also, doesn't hurt that Ben Barnes/Caspian is awesome.) So yeah -- if you're gonna save your money for a movie, you shouldn't feel bad at all about spending it on Caspian, it's definitely worth it.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I saw an advanced screening of Caspian Tuesday, and I can confirm that it's waay better than the reviewers are saying. Then again, I liked Speed Racer, so maybe you can't trust me. But there are definitely tons of battles in there, and they're awwwesome. People in the audience actually broke into applause after one of them, it was kinda cool.

But yeah, there's a lot more strategy and tactics involved in these battles, as compared to the first movie. It's cool to watch them unfold, I'm glad I ended up going to the screening. :D

Great movie. Plenty of death dealt out on the battlefield. While there was very little blood to be seen, the movie went for the throat in the most literal sense many times.

Lots of interesting ideas for terrain pieces too.
