Warhammer RPG Releases Set
For Early 2005

October 22, 2004
Five releases in the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay line have been announced for early 2005. The new releases are a new edition, produced in conjunction with Green Ronin, of the Warhammer RPG originally released in 1986 (see "Games Workshop Launches RPG Imprint").

The Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Core Rulebook is planned as a 256-page hardcover with an MSRP of $39.99 for February, 2005. Also due for release in February is the Character Pack at $11.99.

Two releases are planned for March. The Games Master Pack will have an MSRP of $14.99. Paths of the Damned, a new scenario pack, will have 96 pages and a $24.99 MSRP.

In April, Old World Bestiary -- The Empire, will ship at 128 pages with a $29.99 MSRP.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but the latest White Dwarf mentions the creation of a new imprint under the Black Library, around the WHFRP line.

Also, in the previous issue (I think, or maybe in Fanatic, don't have them to hand) Gav Thorpe mentions a conversation with Chris Pramas around a tentative WH40K RPG, but points out there is no definite plan.

I assume that the Warhammer FRPG will be its own proprietary system, and not a D20 (or even OGL) based game. Can anyone in know confirm or deny that for me?

Confirmed. The WHFRP will not be d20 or OGL, but more like a revision of the old rules.
Too lazy right now to find the link, but trust me. ;)

Any word on the Lord of the Rings license and Warhammer? I thought something should have come out by now.

Press release on GR's website confirms that.

That's too bad. I don't want to get flamed for being a D20-phile, but I would have been reasonably more attracted to the idea if it had been OGL, at least.

Oh well. I wish Green Ronin the best with the game! :)

Well, if they've also got Black Company and Thieves World d20, which arguably will be the same style of fantasy if it's just the rules you want.

I think using the d20 Conan rules for a more heroic game, or the Darkness and Dread rules for a more "as written" interpretation of the Warhammer world in d20 would work fine. You've already got all the monsters, with just a bit of tweaking, too. So although I'm quite the d20-phile, I'm actually pleased this is retaining it's original system.

Old rules to keep with published material - I am looking foward to this and seeing what clean up is performed and how the magic system comes out.

A concern - the loss of atmosphere, the first edition did a fantastic job building the feeling of the world and I would hate to see that disappear. Green Ronin I think has always presented their setting well (MM and Freeport) so I don't think I have anything to fear.

Too bad they don't have a Warhammer 40K RPG. Space Marines!

If they do, I'd sure love to hear about it. The closest thing I came accross were rules for a "skirmish" type game. I think you controlled 1 or more minis as you did "covert-op" type missions.

But, IMO, it's all "flavor" anyway. ;)
