Warlock Caster Levels

I've heard it was possible for a spell-caster to lower the caster level of his spells to the minimum level required to cast that spell.

I was wondering if that was possible for a warlock and Eldritch Blast aswel.

What if an essence or shape invocation is attached to it?

For instance, what if the party wizard is down to single digit hitpoints and is threatened by a powerful melee-ist. Could you reduce the CL to the minimum and attach a repelling blast to it so you can get him out of harms way?

I doubt this is addressed in the book, though since the warlock's invocations are spell-like, they work almost as spells, and therefore... why not.

I don't think situations will come up often in play, where this is useful, however.
