The way I see it why bother. It might be a good secong choice but you might as well just port in the magical girl class from BESM d20

A pale substitute. The master/familiar relationship is the reverse of the traditional magical girl / talking animal relationship. It's more a case of the talking animal taking "acquire teenager" as a feat.

Okay. Play an Awakened Animated Object (Teddy Bear)* who acquires a warlock through a standard use of the leadership feat. No issues there.

Might reequire a House Rule, but as long as the stats aren't broken shouldn't be a problem. Find the stats fora koala bear and have fun. :D

You know, it would be cool to have the cat take that feat cause it would save you from having to take it and you could spend that feat on something else. :)

The thing is, the talking magical animal isn't really even as useful or powerful as a familiar. All a typical talking animal does is give advice, half the time it doesn't even come along on the missions but stays at home figuring out new ways to insult the magical girl for not training enough. It's mechanical benefits could pretty much be covered by Skill Focus: Gather Information.

Meanwhile a BESM d20 Magical Girl's servant is so powerful it's actually stronger than a normal starting character. It's like getting Leadership as a class bonus at first level, only this version gives you a level 3 Cohort.

I don't know about magical girl as I have about no familiarity with the genre...

but...

I've commented before that the warlock reminds me most poignantly of schlock villains in girly fansasy flicks like barbie fantasy movies (Rapunzel, Swan Lake), Anastasia, and the Swan Princess: lots'o'blast attacks and a few "schticks".

No no no. I'm talking about a classed talking magical animal. The talking magical animal is the PC. The warlock is the one gained through the leadership feat!

I know, I'm saying that, for instance, Luna is clearly much too useless to actually be classed except possibly as an L1 commoner. She's only good for information.

Oh. You were speaking in terms of real anime. That's where the disconnect is. See, I've never even seen anything anime except for brief commercials. So I know squat about actual characters. I was just trying to accomplish what I assumed to be MarkB's assertion that the teddy bear was more powerful than the character.

But my total lack of actually understanding anime may have gotten into the way of me posting a meaningful post. Sorry!
