Come to think of it, are there any Robin Laws gamer types that won't be well-served by 4E? Power Gamer: Obviously going to revel in the increased complexity of the martial classes, and the unexpected synergies ripe for exploitation once rules mastery is achieved. Butt Kicker: No shortage on Whup-Ass-In-A-Can at the local general store in 4E, that's for sure. Tactician: The intense focus on round-by-round tactics in combat will play to this type. Here I see a slight improvement over 3e, if only because the tactical options are more explicitly designed into the system. Specialist: These guys are easy to keep happy. Well, once the specialist's favourite class gets converted, anyway. Method Actor: This is a system-independent factor. If the DM and other players are into playing out scenes in-character, he'll be happy. Storyteller: I think that the new social rules will help keep this kind of player interested. From what we've seen, they help to drive the story forward by making social interaction into something that can have an unexpected outcome on the situation. Interesting developments are the sorts of things that keep this player hooked. Casual Gamer: Here's where we see the biggest improvement over 3.x. The ability to just sit down and play without a super-intense briefing session is going to be a major strength of the new edition. Roll high versus defense. Roll high to save. All powers tell you what they do right on your sheet. The more they make it easy to grok, the better the beer & pretzels gamers will like it.
