Superhero = Fighting-man, level 8

The original core concept of D&D was starting a character at "low level" and advancing to levels described in Chainmail, such as Hero or Superhero. This is reflected in the original combat listings (Man, Man+1, etc.), for example.

The point is, Hero and Superhero never indicated a "starting character" in D&D, or a separate character class.
