Bloody goddamn hell people, just play the power the way you interpret it. It needs errata.

Heh. This is me, normally. It's just that this power has the weapon keyword, and I had read a bunch of other weapon keyword powers, and they were all melee or ranged attacks with the weapon, and this one wasn't, so it messed with my head.

In the future, when asking questions you'll get quicker answers if you include the text of the power you're asking about :)

Eh. That assumes I'm in a hurry. A leisurely discussion is sufficient. ; )

So, current consensus seems to be that Warlord + Ally must be within melee range of the target, and the power's Weapon keyword seems to imply that you provide your proficiency and enhancement bonuses (if better) to your ally's attack, but we would prefer errata to clarify this oddity? : )

I may be wrong on this, but as I interpret this power, the melee weapon aspect is in regards to the type of attack and not a range. It is described as shouting out a command. That implies a visual and verbal component, not necessarily a range 5 or 10. A number of the other warlord powers require the subject to be in visual and audible contact to work. This just means that the warlord can’t direct the Ranger to use its bow.

From a fluff standpoint, the Warlord could theoretically call out to the Fighter, “the day is almost won, keep heart, and stand fast” thereby healing it with Inspiring Word, move towards the Hobgoblin who’s been peppering it with arrows, and then shout out to the Cleric who is fighting a Bugbear, “Hit him on the left, he’s favouring his right side”. That would be a minor (Inspiring Word), move, and a standard (Commander’s Strike), and to me, suits the concept of a Warlord. Whether it is the inspiring or tactical variety, the concept is a battlefield commander.

Your interpretation is wrong. That particular line is always - as in, without fail, ever - used for the range of the power.

By the way, the Weapon keyword on this power does nothing, as you make no rolls. If it needs errata, that's the only errata it needs. The rest is perfectly clear, IMO.

You're really just over thinking it. It's not a difficult power to use.

The Warlord must be in melee range and equipped with a melee weapon because he's distracting the opponent. The ally you choose then makes a basic melee attack with a damage bonus equal to your Int mod. Nowhere does it say your ally gets any kind of modification to their attack roll.

The power has the "melee weapon" keyword as a prerequisite to use the power, but you're not making an attack, your ally is. And since your ally doesn't have your prof and enhancement bonuses, he uses his own like with any other attack he makes.
