Warlords of the Accordlands?

From today's News, AEG is putting out a 4-volume campaign setting. The grandest thing since polka music.

What do you think of the idea? Would 4 volumes of HC books for the core setting put you off, or would that level of detail be a selling point for you?

Granted, we've seen no previews so we can't REALLY tell what it will be like, but in terms of generics I'd like to know what y'all think.

(This is only a half-hearted troll. I really do want to know what people think of the idea.)

I only hope that its more compatible than Everquest, which I didn't think fit the norm of d20 too well.

I think this is the Warlords card game come to RPG right?

13,000 pages?

Is that a typo on the front page of enworld today - AEG is going to publish a 13,000 page setting? My goodness, that is huge. How much detail do you need? Is 13,000 correct?

One of the things I liked about Kalamar over the years is that it is NOT overloaded with detail

No, it isn't the cardgame. Hi Eric, I haven't got my copies from this month yet, but could well be.

From the EN World news page:

AEG has been working away for the past year on several very large projects, on the scope that hasn't been seen before prior to the launch of Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. Of course, we already have our outstanding Rokugan and Spycraft lines, but in this case we are interested in advertising and showcasing our upcoming d20 System, 13,000 page, all-encompassing: Warlords of the Accordlands. Four massive tomes are being simultaneously developed to be the most comprehensive fantasy setting ever done, bar none.

That's... 3,250 pages per volume? Surely they must mean 13,000 after all the expansions and such are done... That'd be a pretty heavy book :)

Seems excessive to me, especially since in my experience the thing DM's crave most is the knowledge of how to create their own worlds. Few DMs really know how to build a whole campaign setting rich with that kind of detail.Teach a man to fish, and all that...

Plus, the more you detail it, the faster the players will wreck it or feel confined by it.

Doesn't Forgotten Realms really fill the need for folks who need that level of detail?

Having said all that, AEG hasn't disappointed me yet with anything d20. They know their stuff, their production values are excellent, etc.

Or...

Maybe they are using 72pt fonts and big colorful images. :D
Or really, really tiny pages, only an inch wide. Be a bugger to keep open in bed, though... real wrist ache.
