Was there a 1st level “wolfshape” spell? Which book?

I thought I saw a 1st level spell that let the caster take the form off a wolf, similar to the PHB2 spells for shifting into trolls and dragons. But I can not remember the wotc book it was in

Druid spell and Sorc/Wiz, I believe. I know it's druid for sure, my druid uses it, but I'm not sure of the sorc/wiz part.
But the SC lists an Arcane material component: A whisker from a wolf. Curious...

I thought i saw it listed elswhere as an arcane spell myself. I say druids steal so much of the wizards shtick [notably blasting fire], it is high time the wizard stole a little back.

Perhaps saddling the spell with an arcane focus of a wolf skin would fit in theme. :) But even giving the arcane version DR1/silver would not be enough to get a wizard near the front line to make full use of the spell.

You might be thinking of a spell from a Dragon article that previewed the way polymorph spells were headed. I can't look up which issue it was in right now, but it was either shortly before PHB2 or shortly before Miniatures Handbook. It had a small selection of specific form spells and I believe one of them was a wolf. The idiosyncrasies in aspect of the wolf could be holdovers from that article.

Actually, if I remember correctly, aspect of the wolf was originally a spell on the Wizards of the Coast website, shortly after 3E first came out. I think there were one or two thematically-similar spells out around the same time as well.

Dragon Magazine #320, Forms of Legend by Jesse Decker was the original source for these spells.

Cheers!

Upon investigation, the spell I was thinking about was bite of the werewolf. So...[Rosanna Rossannadanna] never mind! [/Rosanna Rosannadanna]
