Watchmen, Dresden, and Carnivale

HBO has produced some of the best TV in the last 10 years.

Even relatively unknown series' like OZ or The Wire, Rome and Deadwood.

And they've got GRRM's Game of Thrones lined up too.

HBO is awesome.
They also gave us Sex and the City, so it's kind of a wash :)

I think Showtime's got them beat now.

And Game of Thrones? My bet is we don't see the TV series or the next novel. But if we do see the series, it'll be with massive liberties. You won't have a bunch of six, eight, and ten-year-old child actors running around. It's a production nightmare for a number of reasons.

OK...I can understand where you say we may never see the TV series (and agree that it's gonna take a miracle to pull off), but what makes you say we will never see the next novel?

Well, I guess I shouldn't belabor the obvious, but Martin's just not all that psyched about finishing his Song of Ice and Fire. Like a lot of folks, I think a lot of the reason why he's got so little wind in his sails is that the big surprise has already been guessed (namely, that
John Snow is a Targaryen and he's destined to hook up with Daenerys
).

But if Martin lives long enough and needs the money, then A Dance of Dragons isn't altogether outisde the realim of possibility.

Ahh...didn't know about the Big Reveal. Did he confirm it?
I think he's just damned slow as a writer. That's his speed and nothing to do about it. From listining to his comments spread through his short story collections, he does have serious ADD though;) He had MANY projects that he never finished. One other thing I noticed though, was that if there was a serious commitment or contract, he did eventually fulfill it. I think, shy of an untimely demise, he will finish it. Just on his own timetable and no time soon.
