Waterdeep - I've got it

The best three city books I have ever seen are Streets of Silver, Freeport, and Marnienburg (WH)

I was looking forwards to this. Sounds like another disappointing WOTC product.

And here I've preordered it....what with Serpent Kingdoms, Lost Empires of Faerun, Shining South, and some of the others, I thought it would be good.

I don't have the Waterdeep box though, so hopefully this will be better than no info...

For some reason the Wizards quality has gone down a little lately...was very unimpressed with Serpent Kingdoms and Champions of Ruin, and the binding of Heroes of Battle was awful (it was clued very badly so the back would break when opened).

Hope Waterdeep is a step up instead of down...

What about the physical quality?

Does it stack up to previous 3e FR books, or does it feel cheaper? Someone told me the cover is glossy!?

I sincerely hope it's still up to the level of physical quality I'm used to in FR books.

Yeah, that was trash. I was really looking forward to that book, but didn't buy it because I was so disappointed in the binding.

It was very much like the binding for the C&C PHB, which sells for $20.

Gimme a break, WotC. You can do better.

A request for those who have the book:

Disregard the fact that the older books about the City had more info, and that this could use more space (160 pages, after all)

Disregard the fact that we don't have poster maps.

Disregard the fact that you need the FRCS (which is implied, anyway. We don't want them to explain everything again.)

Just tell me: Is the book good? Is it acceptable, or does it belong in the trash can, besides Champions of Ruin?

It is a pretty good book. There is a lot of info. I'd definately say it's worth having, especially if you don't have the 2nd edition stuff. I guess I am just spoiled. :)

My guess is that IF the Waterdeep book had repeated everything about Waterdeep mentioned in FRCS, then a lot of people would have complained about WotC wasting time repeating info...I've seen it on other products that had repetitive info in it...I think it's the nature of gamers to complain no matter what...a little like people complaining about bad summers, then when the warmth finally comes, they complain about it being too hot...I do that and guess I'm not alone :)
