Waterdeep - I've got it

I haven't read too much so far, either, but from what I've read I get the impression that it was written by someone who read all the novels and older supplements about Waterdeep and a lot of other FR material as well.

I have FR1 Waterdeep, City System and the Volo's Guide but not the City of Splendours boxed

You really owe it to yourself to try to track down a copy of the CoS boxed set. It's really amazing.

Thanks to Eric for giving us some additional insight into this book. I have all the "old stuff" but I'll probably pick this up. I'm a big fan of all things Waterdeep.

I’ve finally gotten a copy. Which means I’ve stopped pestering the guy at the local gamer shop. I have not had a chance to fully read or review it yet. So far it seems well executed, given space limitations. The history and churches are all nicely explored. In terms of web support, the maps can all be downloaded from WotC. The lack of sprawl and suburbs is an irritation that can be dealt with.

And now...

(Laughs and points at everyone who does not have the book)

One minor point I'm disappointed in: The section about churches didn't have any non-human religions covered. I would have thought that at least the Pantheon Temple of the Seldarine would be mentioned there.

I could only focus on so many churches, and I decided to focus on the ones indicated in City of Splendors (2e) as most important to the city.

It may be a small thing, but I did indicate where the Pantheon Temple actually was, which is a small step forward from what we knew about it (which to date was the reference in Elaine's novels and the paragraph on the crypts I wrote for Lost Empires).

Eric,

True. I have the book now. It's a VERY good and brief summary of Waterdeep WITHOUT skimping too much on the details that make Waterdeep the grandest city in the Realms.

I like it. It's got lots of detail, it doesn't use the craptastic new item description system, and, best of all, it has a map of the city sewers.

Brad

Actually, I don't have any problems with the new format, and was surprised that Waterdeep didn't use it. Probably due to timing issues.

The new format takes up too much space. If the original DMG used it, the magic items chapter alone would have been 700 pages long.
