Hey, Darkness, Dinkeldog! Don't just stand there singing, join the flame-baiting highly volatile political discussion!
:D

I don't know emigrating to Canada from the US. I know emigrating from Canada to the US (for school).

Dealing with INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) is a pain in the rear, even for the simplest of things. I currently have a minor problem with my F1 visa, and it takes about 3 months for them to process the paperwork. I imagine that U.S. is much worse than Canada in the red tape department, based on sheer population size. I'm also pretty sure that it's easier to go from U.S. to Canada than the other way around.

Is it worth it? For a good job, heck yeah. Also, as has been said already, if you're hired, Bioware will probably take care of everything for you. They'll tell you exactly what you need to do, and probably take care of the paperwork. (Mind you, I don't know this for a fact, but am basing it on my experiences and the experiences of friends of mine going from Canada to U.S.)

I've still got my bags packed from '71, and I suspect the jeans in there have outlived their shelf-life and have lost most of their AC.

*whistles something by country joe and the fish*

Bah. Screw Canada. When the revolution comes, I'm heading south of the border, down Mexico way. I want a senorita under my arm and a Corona in my hand, sitting on the beach, and taking my daily siesta. Canada, indeed.

My girlfriend's brother (Hong Kong resident with a British National Overseas (BN(O)) Passport got turned around in the airport without being allowed to set foot on Canadian soil. Of course, his uncle is (allegedly) a member of the Chinese Triad in Vancouver so that might have had something to do with it.

Is this kind of anti-immigration sentiment common in Vancouver? In August 2000 I had a layover at the Van. airport (HK -> O'hare), which is very nice BTW, and I had a long conversation with the Bar lady.
She asked me where I was flying from and I told her Hong Kong. We talked about China for a while, and after an hour or so she started ripping into the immigration policies of Canada. Basically, she said that when she was a kid everything was great, but that Chinese immigration was ruining Vancouver and the government was all on their side.

Teflon Billy said:
Take a look at claiming refugee status. We apparently won't turn anyone away under any circumstances if they claim they are refugees.

My ex-wife was a German, and it took us the better part of three years and untold amounts of cash to get her her landed immigrant status.

In that time, refugee claimants galore in our local office were arrested for dealing crack, auto theft, lying on their documentation etc....with no ill effects on their claim.

Our immigration office refused to deport a refugee claimant found guilty of rape.

Also, we pay refugees a nice monthly stipend for the privelege of letting them come here, a perk not extened to actual landed imiigrant applicants.

My country is bizarre at times:)

It's worth pointing out that Teflon Billy's comments were not anti-immigration or anti-immigrant. Instead they were decrying the inconsistency in the immigration system which seems to make it difficult for law abiding people to enter (or at least puts a fair amount of red tape in their way if they want to do something other than study) but apparently allows criminals to enter illegally and even helps them to do so.

We have similar problems in the US.
